America’s Most Wanted Reaches 1000th Capture

May 17, 2008 01:03:37 by Joe Reality

Jeff Neira/FOXAmerica’s Most Wanted has run for twenty-one seasons, and now the show is reaching an even more amazing milestone.  Proving that reality TV can make a difference, America’s Most Wanted recently helped to capture the 1,000th fugitive who was profiled on the show.

All 1,000 captures came from America’s Most Wanted working in conjunction with viewers and law enforcement.  Host John Walsh will mark this incredible feat with a special episode of America’s Most Wanted, which will originate from Times Square in New York City.  The episode will also feature some of the greatest captures in America’s Most Wanted history.

“Every one of the 1,000 fugitives our viewers have helped take down is a testament to what I say at the end of each broadcast,” said John Walsh. “You can make a difference.”

America’s Most Wanted premiered in February 1988, and the show’s first capture came only four days after the first broadcast.  The 1000th capture came within just hours after an accused killer from New York was profiled on the show on April 19, 2008.  America’s Most Wanted airs on Saturday, May 17 from 9 PM to 10 PM ET/PT on FOX.

Arnold Schwarzenegger To Appear On America’s Most Wanted

April 26, 2008 01:26:08 by Joe Reality

Steve Jennings/FOXCalifornia Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to make a special guest appearance on America’s Most Wanted.  Host John Walsh met with Governor Schwarzenegger at a state-of-the-art DNA testing laboratory in Sacramento, California.

Walsh and Governor Schwarzenegger discussed the importance of giving law enforcement the authority to take DNA samples from criminal suspects. California’s Prop 69 mandates taking DNA samples from felony suspects, and Governor Schwarzenegger played an important role in getting that legislation passed.

There are only a few states that currently have this policy, and California is one of the first.  Walsh is requesting that all states pass similar regulations.  Both Walsh and Governor Schwarzenegger think a national DNA database is very important and will help both in solving more crimes and making sure the innocent are not wrongly convicted.

Also, America’s Most Wanted will feature a piece on “The NorcCal Rapist,” who is responsible for attacks on at least ten women in Northern California.  In addition, America’s Most Wanted will seek viewers’ help in tracking down the killers of a 7-month-old child in Sacramento.

America’s Most Wanted airs on Saturday, April 26 from 9 PM to 10 PM ET/PT on FOX.

North Carolina Lawman Becomes America’s Most Wanted All-Star Finalist

March 15, 2008 01:15:26 by Joe Reality

America’s Most Wanted All StarsA North Carolina lawman who was wounded in the line of duty has been named as a finalist in the 2008 America’s Most Wanted All-Star Contest.  Burke County Sheriff’s Deputy Martin Lawing was shot while attempting to help bring an end to a standoff.  Lawing is the third of eight weekly finalists to be selected by the public in the America’s Most Wanted All-Star Contest.  The contest is sponsored by Sprint, and it honors the heroic work of the nation’s first responders.

In December of 2007, officers attempted to serve involuntary commitment papers to a sixty year old woman and take her to a mental hospital for evaluation.  The woman would not cooperate, and she threatened to shoot anyone who came near her door.  SWAT teams got into a standoff with the woman.

Deputy Martin Lawing attempted to throw a phone into the woman’s home so that she could communicate with negotiators, but the woman opened fire.  Deputy Lawing was hit in the neck by a bullet.  Deputy Lawing was paralyzed by the injury, but he is attempting to regain use of his legs through physical therapy.

Deputy Martin Lawing is thirty-one years old, and he first joined the sheriff’s office in 2002.  Lawing also served his country for five years in the U.S. Army’s elite 3rd Ranger Battalion.

America’s Most Wanted will profile each weekly finalist.  America’s Most Wanted airs on Saturdays at 9 PM ET/PT on FOX.  Nominations can be made at AMW.com until April 1, 2008.  The winner of the 2008 America’s Most Wanted All-Star Contest will receive a check for $10,000 at the NASCAR SPRINT Cup Series All-Star Challenge at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
