American Idol Top 8 Girls Take On The Eighties

March 5, 2008 07:13:37 by Joe Reality

Amanda Overmyer

For the American Idol top 8 female semifinalists performance show, the theme was songs from the eighties.  Asia’h Epperson sang “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”  Randy Jackson said, “That was hot.”  Paula Abdul said, “You nailed it.  You really nailed it.”  Simon Cowell said, “At best, it was second-rate Whitney Houston.”

Kady Malloy sang “Who Wants To Live Forever.”  Randy Jackson said, “I think you did a pretty good job of it.”  Paula Abdul said, “I think to date this was for me your best performance.”  Simon Cowell said, “Kady, I think it was definitely better than last week.  I’m still having issues with your massive lack of personality though.”

Amanda Overmyer sang “I Hate Myself For Loving You.”  Randy Jackson said, “That’s the Amanda that we loved when we first saw her.”  Paula Abdul said, “Your face is beautiful.  I like your hair.”  Simon Cowell said, “If I’m being honest, I thought it was fantastic.”

Carly Smithson sang “I Drove All Night.”  Randy Jackson said, “You keep smashing it every week.”  Paula Abdul said, “You are like a dependable dog.”  Simon Cowell said, “Once again I don’t think you chose the right song.”

Kristy Lee Cook sang “Faithfully.”  Randy Jackson said, “I actually liked it.”  Paula Abdul said, “I was going to say that could be a hit for you in country music.”  Simon Cowell said, “I still think your problem is that you’re forgettable.”

Ramiele Malubay sang “ Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now).”  Randy Jackson said, “I thought it was a pretty good vocal and everything, but find that confidence again.”  Paula Abdul said, “You deserve to be in the top twelve.”  Simon Cowell said, “Actually, I thought it was bit predictable, and I’m not jumping out of my chair on that.”

Brooke White sang “Love Is A Battlefield.”  Randy Jackson said, “Actually, I really liked it.”  Paula Abdul said, “I thought it was a very wise choice that you did that.”  Simon Cowell said, “You made it into a completely different type of song, and once again two weeks running, you’ve done a great performance.”

Syesha Mercado sang “Saving All My Love For You.”  Randy Jackson said, “Good.”  Paula Abdul said, “Sophisticated, lovely.”  Simon Cowell said, “Bit predictable, but good.”

Simon Cowell summed up the night best when he said, “I’m not happy actually.  I don’t think you were anywhere near as good as the guys.  I thought there were two or three good performances.  My favorite performance, got to tell you, was Amanda tonight.”

Which of the American Idol top eight girls will make the top twelve?  Based on tonight’s performances, Amanda Overmyer, Carly Smithson, Brooke While, and Syesha Mercado are good bets to make it.  Between the remaining four, it will likely be a close call as to which two go home and which two become one of the top six girls.
