American Idol Top 8 Guys Finally Show Their Talent

March 4, 2008 07:25:41 by Joe Reality

David Cook

For the American Idol top eight male semifinalists performance show, the theme was songs from the eighties.  Luke Menard sang “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.”  Randy Jackson said, “You kind of got it together in the end.”  Paula Abdul said, “I love, love, love your interpretation of it.”  Simon Cowell said, “I didn’t like it.  I thought it was weak, a big girly.  I’ve got to tell you, there is no chance that you’re going to make it through I don’t think, even to the final twelve.”

David Archuleta sang “Another Day In Paradise.”  Randy Jackson said, “It was nice.  There were a couple little pitch problems here and there.”  Paula Abdul said, “I loved that there were a couple notes that were off because it proved to me that you’re not this make believe person, hologram that can do everything perfect.”  Simon Cowell said, “It wasn’t as good as last week.”

Danny Noriega sang “Tainted Love.”  Randy Jackson said, “I liked the way you did it at the end.”  Paula Abdul said, “You’re like this bright light in this competition.”  Simon Cowell said, “I thought it was horrible, the whole thing.”

David Hernandez sang “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now.”  Randy Jackson said, “Nice song choice for you.”  Paula Abdul said, “I really feel like you’re getting into your groove here.”  Simon Cowell said, “You’ve 100% secured a place in the finals for next week with that.”

Michael Johns sang “Don’t You Forget About Me.”  Randy Jackson said, “Very nicely done.”  Paula Abdul said, “I am so glad that you are the type of artist who is really defining who you are.”  Simon Cowell said, “Huge talent, but haven’t quite connected with the right song and had your moment yet.”

David Cook sang “Hello.”  Randy Jackson said, “I think that could be a single and be a hit.”  Paula Abdul said, “That was fabulous.”  Simon Cowell said, “David, that was a very brave thing to do, and I loved it.”

Jason Castro sang “Hallelujah.”  Randy Jackson said, “You did a pretty good job of it.”  Paula Abdul said, “You made it sound so effortless.”  Simon Cowell said, “I thought it was absolutely brilliant.”

Chikezie sang “All The Woman I Need.”  Randy Jackson said, “You did a good job of it, man.”  Paula Abdul said, “Your vocals sound really good tonight.”  Simon Cowell said, “No, I don’t think that worked at all.”

Overall, tonight was the best night so far for the male semifinalists.  Several of the guys likely secured their place in the top twelve.  David Cook and Jason Castro had the best performances of the night, and Michael Johns and David Hernandez were both very impressive.  Those four should be locks for the top twelve.  David Archuleta is also a lock based on previous performances.   That leaves Danny Noriega, Luke Menard, and Chikezie to sweat it out for the final male spot in the top twelve.
