The Biggest Loser: Fun in Australia

April 1, 2008 09:08:44 by Christine_Navratil

jillian-image.jpgThe contestants were in for a big surprise at the beginning of tonight’s episode. Allison keeps them in the boardroom to tell them all that they are going to be making a trip to Sydney, Australia. The contestants are not only shocked but super ecstatic and they immediately start packing to go. Before they leave however, Ali and Kelly are in the girl’s room talking to Mark, trying to form an alliance with him to kick out Roger. On one hand Mark realizes it is a good idea, but he is not entirely comfortable about the idea. It doesn’t really matter since no one knows what is going to be happening over the next week.

While they waited at the airport Mark passed out a big Ziploc bag full of various little Ziploc bags of snack foods measured out into exactly 100 calories. The contestants are thrilled and very thankful for this.

After they get to Australia they are simply in awe. We get to Jillian and Bob who went ahead of time and we learn that they train the Australian teams for The Biggest Loser as well. Bob and Jillian were not at the last weigh in and do not know the results so they are waiting quite impatiently for the contestants to arrive. Bob notices that Dan is not there and Jillian tells him she is sorry, but something about it didn’t sound too sincere. Jillian was obviously very happy that both of her girls were still in the competition.

The trainers take them to the house that they will be staying in for the week, the house that the Australian Biggest Loser contestants stay in and they are shocked. Not only is it bigger, but it has a jacuzzi and EVERYTHING is better, including the gym. The trainers take them to a gym and it is a tough one because they are behind thanks to losing a day for travel.

That night everyone gets cleaned up and dressed up to go out to dinner with Jillian and Bob. They take the contestants to their favorite restaurant, Otto, to give them a lesson in healthy eating at restaurants and while on vacation. Then, they go dancing and Roger makes a comment about being happy that his new skinnier body does not move the same way that it used to…that now it is all in sync!

The next day the trainers take the contestants to an outdoor farmers market to teach them how to buy food to eat while not at home. They show them how this place and many others will actually cook your food for you. Bob takes the guys to look at the fish and Jillian takes the girls around to the fresh fruit, vegetables and oysters. In the course of things Jillian forces Kelly to eat an oyster which she quickly goes off camera to presumably let come back up.

After they got back to the house they answered a knock on the door from Ando, a prior winner of Biggest Loser Australia who became very close to Bob. Ando told them about how he was scared of heights and when he had a challenge where he had to jump off of a platform and realized that this was a new life. He then read a letter from Allison telling the group of five that they were going to be meeting her at the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge for a challenge. Mark immediately starts panicking because he is petrified of bridges. It even goes so far as him telling the other contestants that he will see them after they come down. They say no and make him head up. He goes wearily but once he gets there he realizes that it isn’t that bad.

Allison shows them a sea plane flying by and lets them know that the reward is a trip for the winner and another person of their choosing for a tour of the harbor by plane followed by a brunch. The challenge? They will be competing in a triathlon that starts with a 300 meter swim, a walk up a flight of stairs to pick up a bike which they will ride to the botanical gardens, a run through the gardens to the Aurora Place Building where they will climb 44 flights of stairs. Once they get to the top they will find Allison and the winner will be announced.

Ali led until about halfway through the bike part of the competition at which Mark took over. Jay was in third place followed by Kelly and then Roger. Kelly’s lead over Roger only lasted until she got up a few flights of stairs at the building where he over took her. At the top of the building Mark surprised Allison and stopped, waiting on the steps. He said that he realized it wasn’t about winning and didn’t want to get to the finish line and be there all by himself waiting. Ali was shocked to see him sitting there when she got to the top. He told Ali that he was too tired and couldn’t finish, and told her that she had to carry him over the finish line. She promptly put him on her back and ran him up to Allison piggy back style.

After Jay and Roger reached the top they all realized that Kelly was still coming and went back down to get her. After they all get back to the top and all feel good about themselves Allison informs the two winners that not only do the get the fly over and the brunch but they get to call home. That is what each of them wanted, a chance to call their families so they were very happy.

After they take the air tour Ali and Mark sit down to have brunch and talk about the game. Ali asks if Roger still wants her gone and Mark admits that she is seen as a threat. Mark says that he feels like they both deserve to still be in the house and wants both himself and Ali at the finale. Finally, they got to call home!

Mark went first and told his wife that the only thing that sucked was her not being there. He started crying and she told him straight out that he needed to toughen up…but she did it in a very loving way. He admitted how much he missed his family. Ali then got to call her grandmother and was thrilled when her mom answered. She told her grandmother how beautiful it was there and we found out that her grandmother was from Australia. This was a very important call for Ali.

The last chance workouts were very different. Bob had his guys doing yoga, looking very relaxed although he pointed out that they had sweat pouring off of them. Jillian put the girls through a very tough workout knowing that this was going to be a hard week.

When they went to weigh in both trainers and the contestants were visibly worried. The results were in though:

Jay - 201 to 202 he gained a pound and had a -.05% weight loss
Ali - 149 to 146 loses 3 pounds and had a 2.01% weight loss
Roger - 236 to 234 lost 2 pounds and a .85% weight loss
Kelly - 192 to 191 lost 1 pound and a .52% weight loss
Mark - 181 to 182 gained a pound and a -.55% weight loss

The brothers, Mark and Jay were on the chopping block and everyone was shocked and upset. Jay begs everyone to send him home, and says that Mark deserves to be there. Once they are sitting at the table the house gives Jay what he wants and sends him home.

The pictures of Jay are astounding. He has lost even more weight and is at a total of 100 pounds lost.

Next week is the last week in the house for the contestants. It is traditionally a week of reflections and goodbye and then we get to wait anxiously for the finale in two weeks. It looks like it will be a good one!
