American Idol Producers Knew About Scott Savol’s Arrest

March 31, 2005 11:48:21 by Joe Blackmon

Scott_savol_photoAn official statement has been released by a member of Scott Savol’s family in regards to the story of Scott Savol being arrested as reported on The Smoking Gun.  While Scott’s immediate family is not allowed to comment due to their contractual obligations to Fox, Scott Savol’s Aunt Janet has given her response to the incident.  Scott’s Aunt states that Scott did make American Idol producers aware of the incident and kept "nothing hidden from them."  Scott’s Aunt also states that the phone "hit the wall" and not Michele’s chest as reported in the police report posted on The Smoking Gun website.  Furthermore, according to Scott’s Aunt, Michele did not want Scott prosecuted and "wrote a letter to the courts on Scott’s behalf and the charges were then reduced to a misdemeanor."  In the words of Scott’s Aunt, "Scott made a mistake, paid his dues, changed his life for the better and moved on."  If this information is accurate (and we have no reason to believe it’s not), then Scott Savol should not be removed from the competition.  Scott’s arrest was only a misdemeanor and happened several years ago.  If Scott Savol were to be disqualified over this incident, then Paula Abdul should be disqualified as a judge, because after all she has also been charged with a misdemeanor, and her misdemeanor was a lot more recent than Scott’s.

American Idol Shocker - Jessica Sierra Out!

March 30, 2005 10:23:51 by Joe Blackmon

Jessica_sierraProving once again that American Idol is not just about how well you sing, but also about how much people like you, Jessica Sierra received the lowest number of votes and was sent home.  Joining Jessica Sierra in the bottom three were Nadia Turner and Anwar Robinson.

In the performance on Tuesday night, Simon Cowell told Jessica Sierra that she was a good singer but that she didn’t have the "likability factor."  Apparently, Simon was right.  Not only was Jessica sent home tonight, but none of the other American Idol finalist shed a tear for her departure.  Which is very odd considering American Idol finalist are usually notorious for crying at the drop of a hat.  It looks like someone would have thrown some sympathy sobs Jessica’s way considering the crying fest for Mikalah Gordon last week.  Outraged fans are already sounding off on the American Idol message board over Jessica’s untimely ejection posting messages like  "I’m shocked", "I can’t believe it happened", "Is America on drugs?", and "The whole thing is rigged!"

Boston Rob - It’s a Race, Phil!

March 30, 2005 01:02:17 by Joe Blackmon

Ray_deanna_1Amazing Race 7 ran a special two hour episode on Tuesday, March 29 that was quite possibly the best episode of Amazing Race ever.  In the first hour, retired Grandma Gretchen takes a tumble in a cave competition and busts her head open.  The tough Grandma remarks that she’s wanted a face lift for a long time and insists that her husband keep searching for the clue.  The accident leads to them being the last team to the check-in, but luckily for them it turns out to be a non-elimination round.  However, Phil strips them not only of all their money but their belongings as well.

In the second hour, brothers Brian and Greg flip over their jeep, injuring their camera man.  Lynn and Alex stop to help, while Rob and Amber speed on by.  Rob and Amber move into second place, and when Phil tries to give them a hard time about not stopping, Rob replies, "It’s a race, Phil."  The brothers amazingly make up a lot of time and get back into the race.  The brothers win an exciting footrace with dating couple Ray and Deana.  Ray and Deana are the last team to check-in and are eliminated from the race.

American Idol 4 - Constantine Maroulis Gaining Ground

March 30, 2005 12:35:58 by Joe Blackmon

We’re glad that American Idol screwed up the phone numbers last week instead of this week, because this week’s performance show probably couldn’t stand up to a second viewing.  Maybe, the theme of "Songs from the Nineties" was too boring, but overall the performances were a let down from last week’s outstanding show.  The highlights were Carrie Underwood had a second straight strong performance, and Constantine Maroulis came through with his strongest performance of the competition.  Vonzell Solomon also showed that she is in the hunt to win.  It’s a tough call for who will be going home, but our prediction is that time might have run out for Scott Savol.  Here is how Reality TV Magazine ranked the performances.

  1. Carrie Underwood
  2. Constantine Maroulis
  3. Vonzell Solomon
  4. Bo Bice
  5. Nadia Turner
  6. Nikko Smith
  7. Anwar Robinson
  8. Jessica Sierra
  9. Anthony Fedorov
  10. Scott Savol

The American Idol 4 live results show will air on Wednesday, March 30 (9:00-9:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.

Invasion Iowa Starring William Shatner

March 29, 2005 12:21:00 by Joe Blackmon

Shatner_checkTuesday nights are quickly shaping up to be the best night in reality TV.  It is like reality TV nirvana as American Idol 4, Amazing Race 7, Project Greenlight, and Nashville Star 3 all air on a single night.  However, be careful not to miss the premier of Spike TV’s first reality mini-series Invasion Iowa with William Shatner.  This reality TV mini-series is a parody in the vein of the Joe Schmo Show where residents of a small Iowa town are fooled into believing that William Shatner is in town filming a science fiction movie.

Invasion Iowa has received some negative press from critics who believe this trick amounts to a cruel joke.  However, CriticDoctor.com has the real scoop.  The Critic Doctor was actually present when William Shatner revealed the hoax to the citizens of Riverside, Iowa, and he notes "the audience erupted in a loud applause."  William Shatner also presented a check for $100,000 to the town of Riverside to use as they wish (Photo courtesy of the Critic Doctor).  After viewing an advance copy of Invasion Iowa, the Critic Doctor quotes Bill Poch (the Mayor of Riverside, Iowa) as saying "I think it’s funny. I think it’s good. I think it will be successful." Invasion Iowa airs Tuesday, March 29; Wednesday, March 30; Thursday, March 31, and Friday, April 1 on Spike TV at 9P.M. ET/PT time.

Also, two teams race for the first Fast Forward of the Race where both their balance and their fear of heights are tested. Meanwhile, Teams get emotional after a visit to a local orphanage and an intense drive ends with one Team getting into a horrible car accident.
